Creation Care Bulletin Blurbs (June 2026)
World Oceans Day is on Monday, June 8th! As we reflect on the abundance of God’s creation, we can also protect our oceans by reducing our plastic use. It’s estimated that more than 11 million tons of plastic enter our oceans each year, threatening hundreds of marine species. Many plastics are designed for one-time use, and they can take hundreds of years to decompose. This week, pay attention to your plastic use and make a simple swap!
Be a friend to baby birds! Now is the prime time for spotting baby birds who are making their debut in the world. Most birds that people encounter are fledglings: birds who have left the nest, are learning to fly, and are still under the care of their parents. Unless they are in injured or in danger from cats or traffic, it is usually best to leave fledglings alone. Learn more and discover handy resources at saintfrancisinstitute.org/resources/babybirds.
June is National Pollinator Month! Did you know that approximately one-third of the food we eat grows with the help of pollinators? Bees, birds, and other species provide critical support to plants and thus to humans. We can support these hard-working helpers with native plants and by being good stewards of our environment. Like Pope Francis said in Laudato Si’: Everything is connected!
If you’re planning to BBQ for the 4th of July, consider adding a plant-based hamburger or hot dog to your menu! Meatless versions of these holiday favorites not only use significantly less water and land to produce according to a Cambridge University study, but also bring a compassionate alternative for animals to the table.
